This one-day hike takes you to the breathtaking Shira Plateau, one of the oldest and most scenic features on Mount Kilimanjaro. Located at an elevation of over 3,500 meters, the plateau offers expansive views, high-altitude vegetation, and a chance to explore the mountain's dramatic landscapes without trekking to the summit.
The Shira Plateau Day Hike is ideal for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and those seeking a high-altitude experience with fewer crowds. It’s also a great acclimatization option for trekkers or an unforgettable excursion for those short on time.
All day hikes are private and can be arranged on any day of the year, depending on weather and road conditions.

Itinerary: Shira Plateau Day Hike and Return

• Morning: After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, you will meet your guide and drive approximately 2.5 hours to the Londorossi Gate (2,250m) on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After registration, continue driving to the Shira Gate (3,400m), the starting point of your hike.
• Hike: Begin your hike across the Shira Plateau, surrounded by stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s upper slopes, rolling alpine meadows, and volcanic rock formations. On a clear day, you may see Kibo Peak and Mount Meru in the distance.
• Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot on the plateau.
Descent: After lunch and exploration, return to the vehicle and drive back to Moshi in the late afternoon.

Elevation: 3,400m / 11,155ft → up to ~3,800m / 12,467ft (depending on turnaround point)
Distance: ~6–8 km hiking (plus ~2.5 hours drive each way)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
