Marangu Route Day Hike – Mandara Hut

Overview

This one-day Kilimanjaro hike takes you along the scenic Marangu Route to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters), located in the lush montane forest zone. It's a perfect option for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro without aiming for the summit.
All short treks are private and can be arranged on any day of the year. These hikes are ideal for nature lovers and adventurers who want a taste of Kilimanjaro’s unique landscape, rich flora and fauna, and cultural significance.
Please note: This trek does not reach the summit. All hikes within Tanzania's national parks require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and Marangu Route is the only route where one-day treks are allowed.

Itinerary: Day Hike to Mandara Hut and Return

• Morning: After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, meet your guide and drive approximately 1 hour to the Marangu Gate of Kilimanjaro National Park.
• Park Registration: Complete the registration formalities and begin your hike through the rainforest zone, where you may spot Colobus monkeys, colorful birdlife, and towering Eucalyptus trees.
• Hike: Trek up to Mandara Hut (2,700m), with an optional side trip to the scenic Maundi Crater, which offers panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and parts of Kenya.
• Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Mandara Hut area.
• Descent: After lunch, descend back through the forest to the park gate and return by vehicle to Moshi.
